About Me

Please make sure my last name (not my username) is clear on the envelope above my address.

I’m an Aussie, living in Berlin, Germany. I am in my 40s. I read a lot, mainly fiction but also some informative books on a wide range of themes. With books, I like to have one German book and one English book on the go. My German language skills are good enough for work, and general getting by, but I really am lazy with it. I like cutting pictures out of magazines and sticking them in books to make new journaling pages. I used to enjoy playing bingo with my late grandmother, I have a nostalgia for it now, but nowhere seems to host it. I love flowers, household plants and learning about their benefits. I am learning about what plants from the weed variety are actually edible, like dandilion or nettle. I made some dried stinging nettle capsules for the Winter, they have a lot of vitamins and minerals. I enjoy taking holidays and look forward to exploring Europe more. I am quite happy with my own company and never seem to run out of things to do.

I am not religious, but I do not mind if you are.

I love cat related things - especially black cats. I also love robins, starlings and small blackbirds. Ferns, pheasants, flowers, trees, nature, dried/pressed flowers. I'm always pleased to receive memo papers, stickers (adult), notecards, stationery papers, washi tapes, unused postcards that are not of a city. Not really into book pages (unless it's >80% illustrated) or colouring in pages/cards. Virgo related things are welcome :)

I would love to receive anything with the common blackbird on it. It is my favourite garden bird. Also anything with hares or bees.

Favourite Season: all - They all have their good points. Favourite Colours: all but particularly mauve, forest green, minty green, gold and silver

Favorite Crafts

I'll try anything, I recently knitted a super nice jumper and I also can knit socks but colour-work socks usually end up too tight. I enjoy cooking and will often cook something new from a recipe book or online, but generally it should have a picture so I know what it should look like!

Currently sewing a top at a weekly sewing class, I'm making good progress - It helps to have a teacher at hand. And doing cross-stitch - happy to receive photocopies of patterns!

I enjoy my junk journaling and making collages. I'd love to get letter stickers! But not number stickers.

Interesting magazine/newspaper cut outs, dicuts, things I can use in a junk journal. Anything cat related, carebears related, floral, nature, pretty.

Favorite Books

Cold comfort farm - Stella Gibbons. My Struggle (series) - Karl Ove Knausgård Anastasia (series) - Vladimir Megre Flames - Robbie Arnott Though a Glass Darkly - Karleen Koen Village Diary - Miss Read Old 1950s book about cosy, village life.

Favorite Movies

Indie films! Suggest some from your country please! I generally will not watch Hollywood films, including Disney. I can no longer tolerate violence or to be honest, sex-scenes. I do not see how it really enhances a film. Subtle and not in-your-face is always better. TruthStreamMedia on YouTube is always a favourite.

Likes & Dislikes

If the swap does not require extras, you do not have to send any! Otherwise, I am happy to receive any notecards, notepapers/memopapers, letter sets! I am quite open minded and am happy to read your happy moments as well as your not so happy.

I would not like to receive food items including teas. I prefer not to receive disney, hollywood, religious, manga items. I am not particularly interested in blank country postcards, I don't know how to use cards from another city. I do love the "Greetings from" series though. And please NOTHING even slightly perfumed, as I get headaches from perfume.

Thank you! :)

Comment: I LOVED reading about your amazing hike the West Highland Way!!! So very awesome seeing how many miles you hiked every day and where you stayed the night and how many of your "lows" during that time were "not really a low" but just something vaguely annoying that happened! :) This is all totally inspiring!! And then you got time with your extended family. That's so great. Thank You, Thank You for sharing this with me!

Comment: Hi Carys, thank you for the lovely happy mail. I enjoy receiving letters/updates from you in my mailbox. I hope you had a wonderful time on your UK trip! I'm glad you'll be able to make a trip back to Australia to get to visit with your family. It is a bummer to live far away from loved ones. Both of my sisters live in completely different parts of the US than I do (I'm in Georgia, one is in New York and one is in Hawaii.....my youngest sister and I both ended up marrying military members and moving far from "home"). Do you have a favorite bird? I hope y'all enjoy the long day of nature!

Comment: Hi Carys, thank you for your lovely letter. I am so glad you decided to go on your beach trip, it sounds like a great time. Being on the beach, disconnected from the rest of the world, is so peaceful. Your letter reminded me that I really need to try harder this year to make some trips to the beaach. The walk through the Ghost Forest sounds so nice. I hope your June is off to a wonderful start.

Comment: Hi! This is JoeKochin — the one who probably tidied away their “tidy gene” somewhere and now can’t remember where it is. Your Zine, your letter, the cute extras… 5 hearts are not enough!! Even the stamps had me staring in admiration. I truly admire your active lifestyle — not just the distances you walk (which are impressive enough!) but the perspective and appreciation you gain from those experiences. Honestly, when I read your letter, I almost wondered, “Did this letter walk all the way to me too? Is it wearing shoes?!” Haha! This was such a beautiful and inspiring swap. Thank you so much, and I’m already looking forward to hearing more of your stories someday!

Comment: Your envelope and notecard were both so cute! That's so wonderful that you have nice areas to go for walks/bird watching near you. I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip! I'm glad you were able to find some clothes to add to your closet, I do understand how hard it is to get rid of things that still have life in them.

Comment: Thank you so much for your letter AND the extra cards. I loved them. I hope you have a wonderful May right now. Sorry for the late rating, I have been really not in the best moods at the moment and didn't have the energy to go to my po box. Today I finally got to go there and collected all my mail <3.

Comment: Thanks for the notecard - after your message I thought it would be in a worse state. You could have passed it off as something that happened in the postal service haha. Ugh the rug! Yeah I would have thrown that out too! I hope your trip is amazing! We did part of the West Highland Way last year, but parts of it were closed after a storm, so there were a lot of detours.
